Direction
Every speaker is shaped for your two ears the way a real source is, so ahead, behind, left and right each sound like a place.
Surround
Place up to twelve speakers anywhere around you, near or far, louder or softer, and hear each one exactly where you put it, through any headphones.
Put headphones on, press play, then drag a speaker and hear it move.
Tap a speaker to choose it, drag it anywhere, or tap an empty spot to add one. With the keyboard: arrows turn it and move it nearer or farther, Delete removes it.
How it works
Each speaker is a sound placed in the space around your head. Drag it to any direction, from half a metre to twenty metres away, and set how loud it plays.
Every speaker is shaped for your two ears the way a real source is, so ahead, behind, left and right each sound like a place.
A farther speaker is heard a little later, the time sound takes to cross the room: five metres is about fifteen milliseconds.
A near speaker is almost all direct sound, a far one more of the room around it, the strongest cue ears have for distance.
On Auto, a speaker ahead plays the middle of the song, one at your side its left or right, and one behind you its space.
One tap sets every speaker. Then move any of them.
Six speakers in a ring, five metres away. Where everyone starts.
Six a metre away on your left, six ten metres away on your right.
Five speakers spread across the front, six metres out, like a band on a stage.
Centre, left and right ahead, two at your sides, one behind.
Six around you at arm's length, 1.2 metres.
With AirPods that track your head, the speakers can stay where you put them while you turn, the way real speakers do. Or let them move with you as you turn and walk.
Without Pro, Surround plays two speakers turning slowly around your head, once every sixteen seconds. No time limit and nothing to set.
An equalizer from 32 Hz to 16 kHz you shape by dragging the curve itself, with seven presets to start from. Boosts never clip: Surround makes room for them.
Choose a preset to see its curve, and hear it while the demo plays.
A little weight underneath, a lift where voices sit and some air on top, as much or as little as you like.
From dry, the speakers alone, to a wide room around them.
Gently, naturally or steeply: how much quieter a speaker gets as it moves away.
One switch on the Listen page turns Surround off and back on, so you can hear the difference on the same moment.
The artwork turns in 3D under your finger and sways while it plays. The glow behind it swells with the music. The lyrics, when a song carries them, the artist and the album, what plays next, and controls on the Lock Screen and in Control Center. It keeps playing with the screen off.

Any headphones work. Turning your head and having the music stay put needs AirPods that track your head: AirPods Pro, AirPods 3 and later, or AirPods Max.

Surround renders for two ears. Through a speaker in the room the sense of direction is lost, so use headphones.

No. The files you add stay in Surround on your iPhone and everything you hear is made on the phone. The only thing that reaches ELO AI is your sign-in.
Surround is on its way to the App Store. Until it arrives, the demo at the top of this page places speakers the same way the app does.
